So it turns out that the Southern Poverty Law Center has an off-shore Cayman Islands bank account. I wonder why they need something like that? This piece has a look at the group and its founders, who make six figure salaries and live in opulent mansions, while not ever really doing much about, you know, poverty. They are more interested in attracting donors through direct mailings about the next batch of hate groups they are supposedly fighting. However, I have found they are quite good at putting a couple terrible groups right next conservative voices that they oppose, a tactic that seems pretty damn slimy and underhanded to me. But rich lefties keep donating hand over fist... I wonder if they would continue to do so if they knew how much money they control and how the operators of SPLC live in such splendor?

Caving on civilian trials for terrorists, ably demonstrated by the Obama Administration... This kind of thing is seriously unbelievable to me, but it is in the same vein as closing Gitmo, i.e. all for show, without actually doing anything because to do so would endanger the country. What a great way to make policy.

Unionize the Transportation Security Agency? The Obama Administration is all for it. What could go wrong?

In-state tuition for illegal immigrants has recently been preserved by the California Supreme Court. But is anybody really surprised what happens in that state anymore? Fortunately, this does set up an eventual Supreme Court hearing on the matter, where hopefully saner heads will prevail.
Money doesn't equal electoral success, as Jacob Sullum observes in his latest, "Can't Buy Me Love". This also goes to show that the whole uproar by Democrats over the Citizens United decision was really much ado about nothing...

Joe Biden has a meeting on government transparency today. Which is of course a closed meeting. You can't make this stuff up.

Will protectionism and trade wars result from the Federal Reserve's latest round of quantitative easing of the money supply? Turns out other countries don't like their dollar-denominated US debt being inflated away. And it makes it kinda hard to get China to let the yuan float freely when we are manipulating our own.

Is NATO getting phased out? I hope not, but if no one besides the US contributes $$$, then it doesn't really make sense. Still, the organization has been a force for good in the world, and there are no military alliances of the last half century that have positively impacted so many regional conflicts like NATO.
